Individuals Fingerprinted at Department of Insurance's Examination Sites: a new fingerprint vendor, Accurate Biometrics will begin live scan services at the California Department of Insurance's (CDI) Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Francisco examination sites at a reduced fee of $58.30. The fee currently is $58.95. The $58.30 fee includes the FBI processing fee of $17, DOJ processing fee of $32, and Accurate Biometrics' rolling fee of $9.30. The applicant may pay using all major credit cards -- VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover Card. In addition a money order, cashier's check, company check or personal check in the amount of $58.30 made payable to "Accurate Biometrics" will also be accepted.

Individuals Fingerprinted at PSI's Examination Sites: CDI's examination vendor, PSI's Services, LLC will continue to provide fingerprinting services through L-1 Solutions at PSI's test centers. The total processing fee for the fingerprint impressions taken by L-1 Solutions is $68.95, which includes the FBI processing fee of $17, DOJ processing fee of $32, and the rolling fee charged by PSI of $19.95. L-1 Solutions accepts money orders, cashier's checks, company checks (made payable to L-1 Solutions), VISA and MasterCard. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted.

Individuals who send their Fingerprint Cards: California non-resident license applicants and insurance company officers/directors are to submit their fingerprint cards and the reduced $58.30 fingerprinting fee to Accurate Biometrics, 8680 Greenback Lane, Suite 200, Orangevale, CA 95662. The fingerprint card payment options include all major credit cards, which can be recorded on the credit card authorization form and mailed along with the fingerprint card and Live Scan Service Request Form to Accurate Biometrics, or by a money order, cashier's check, company check or personal check in the amount of $58.30 made payable to "Accurate Biometrics". A Live Scan Service Request form must accompany the completed fingerprint card. The form is available on CDI's website at www.insurance.ca.gov Go to the SEARCH box on the main page and insert "Live Scan Service Request" and then select "GO" to retrieve the form for non-resident license applicants or for insurance company officers/directors.

The 12 hour difference is the California Code and Ethics portion. You are only required to complete the 12 hours of Code and Ethics once. So if you have a active license or you have completed a 52 hour course then you would only be required to complete the 40 hour course. If this is your first license then you will need the 52 hour Certificate of Completion to sit for the State exam. The State exam for 52 and 40 hour courses contain 150 multiple choice questions. For Limited Lines Auto and Personal Lines courses the exam is 60 multiple choice questions and for Life only and Accident and Health the exam is 75 multiple choice questions. You must receive a score of at least 60% in order to pass the exam. You may retake the exam 2 consecutive times and then must wait 30 days to sit for the exam on your 3rd attempt. For your 4th attempt there is no waiting period. You must then wait 60 days before your 5th attempt and for your 6th attempt there is no waiting period. For Life-Only Agents and/or Accident and Health Agents, Property and Casualty Broker-Agents, Personal Lines Broker-Agents, and Limited Lines Automobile Insurance Agents only: Pursuant to Section 2182 of the California Code of Regulations if you fail or fail to appear for the examination two times, you will not be permitted to retake the examination for a period of third (30) days. If you fail or fail to appear two more times after the thirty (30) day-period, you will not be permitted to retake the examination for a period of sixty (60) days.

Failure to Appear: If an examinee fails to appear at the time and place set for the examination, the examinee shall be deemed to have failed the examination (Section 1683 of the California Insurance Code).

No on forward and Yes on backward. You may go backward at any time for review purposes. You must complete each chapter is sequential fashion, you cannot skip over a chapter. The Department of Insurance requires you spend X hours in each course before you can print a certificate. X hours varies depending on the course you have selected. If you reach the end of a course without meeting the D.O.I's time requirements you will be provided with a time-sheet of your time spent in each section and quizzes and how much time left you must spend to satisfy D.O.I requirements.
